GWCL alarmed at rise in meter theft especially in Kasoa, Nyanyano

The Management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the Accra West Region has expressed grave concern about “the alarming rate at which some members of the public are stealing water meters and water connection materials in its operational area”.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday, March 8, the thievery takes place predominantly in the Kasoa, Nyanyano, Amasaman and Dansoman Operational Districts.

Signed by the Communication Manager of the Region, Mrs Solace A.M. Akomeah, the release notes that as many as ten cases of meter thefts are recorded in some of the Districts mentioned above on a typical day.

This it added is especially prevalent within the Kasoa and Nyanyano enclave.

It said about 40 Police extracts from customers in the Nyanyano District alone, covering the last quarter of 2022 to date, has been received in connection with stolen water meters.

“It is important to note that these water meters and water connection materials come at great cost to the Company and so culprits should desist from such acts,” the press release said.

It noted how on Tuesday, March 7 a gentleman who was on rampage breaking water connections and stealing the materials in Nyanyano was arrested.

“The gentleman is currently in Police custody at the Ngleshie Amanfrom Police Station and will face the full rigors of the law.”

The Company appealed to the general public to be on the lookout for such perpetrators and report all suspected cases to the police or GWCL “to help curb the incidence of meter theft”.
