John Mensah backs Chris Hughton to excel as Black Stars coach

Former Ghana captain John Mensah has expressed his support for the newly appointed Black Stars coach Chris Hughton, stating that he believes the experienced coach will do an excellent job.

Hughton was appointed as the new coach in February, and his unveiling is scheduled to take place later this month. He has been brought in to replace Otto Addo, who resigned following the team’s exit from the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar.

“Chris is in to do an excellent job and wants success for the Black Stars so we should support him so that he won’t feel bad,” Mensah told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

“There’s no time again than to throw our full support for Hughton to build a formidable team that can compete.”

Hughton is well aware of the team’s lack of success, with their last trophy being won in 1982 when they were crowned champions of the Africa Cup of Nations.

His first challenge as coach will be a doubleheader against Angola in the Afcon, with the first leg taking place on March 23 in Kumasi, followed by a rematch in Luanda four days later.
